Get both. I've got both, and it's a great combo. The 5DII has the better image quality, but the versatility of the 7D has it's advantages. Once, I had just 2 speedlites with me. With the 5DII, I was using an umbrella for the foreground, and ambient for the background. The background got too unpredictable, so I popped the radiopopper transmitter on the 7D, put the 580 I had been using on the 5D2 as a trigger on the background. Problem solved.

I'm holding out for the 5D MK III.

We have been shooting with 7d's for a year and absolutely love them. We decided to purchase one 5d mk ii and tested the two side by side (you can also find a TON of side by side comparisons on the web).

Our observations... same picture ratio (2X3 ratio) but obviously the full frame has a wider view. The noise reduction is similar with using the same lens and iso settings, but the 5d definitely has a much more broad range of ISO than then 7d does. The 5d also rendered blacks better and the detail seemed to be a bit better.

We have not tried it on an actual wedding yet (we will in less than 2 wks), but overall, I think that if price isn't the consideration, the 5d is the better purchase due to extremely low light situations at times. But honestly, for the price, 7d is friggin awesome and you can't go wrong with either camera.

The 5D II is very hard to beat.
It's all I use for weddings.

I do primarily portrature and auto shoots with the occasional concert or random UE day tossed in and I never hesitate to use 3200 ISO with my 5DII.

I will say, if you don't have the lenses for it, you must make it your first priority to buy at least a good prime and maybe something like a 24-70 f/2.8L and at least a 70-200 f/4L if you can't afford at least a 70-200 f/2.8L IS I.

if you shoot a lot of primes. remember that the 7D's focusing screen is non-interchangeable.

I've been using a 7D for over a year and I love it. Yeah, yeah it's crop frame blah blah, but the image quality is superb. There are a ton of test comparisons out there between the 5D and 7D, but when my wife got her 5D mk2 last week, I did my own comparison tests using our 100mm 2.8 L IS macro and I found that at certain ISO's the 7D rendered color better than the 5D, but the 5D rendered blacks better. the noise was very similar. At certain times, I couldn't remember which image belonged to which camera except for the crop.

I also like the ability to control Canon Speedlights from the on-camera flash via ETTL. That's pretty awesome. Also, the Zone Focusing feature of the 7D is way awesome too.

My .02$ :)
