Looked like only the back LCD screen glass is different. As well as them removing the logo from the front.

I'm opening up a leica upgrade station. For only 800 dollars, I will file off the red dot logo off your m9. I will also add a ggs screen protector free. Limit time offer.

Will you take $750 and use a plastic screen guard? haha

Deal, please send your leica m9 and $750 to me. Due to high demand, expected return time is 1 year. The several thousand added shutter actuations is just a side effect of filing off the logo. Remember to send your lenses too.

I'm not too sure about that. Price is relative to expectation. There are many leica users that would still cringe at the fact of paying 1000 more for just 2 minor "upgrades".

I'm sure the m9 is fantasic and could be an awesome value at $7k. But paying $1000 dollars more for better back LCD glass and having the logo removed the from is just a bit excessive.

I used to think i would want an M9 if i had the money, but i've since changed my mind. the pretentiousness of the leica "community" is just too unbearable. This ridiculous new edition just reinforces that feeling.

Have you used one? I'd still buy one, despite any snob factor. I can understand why people would not like one for many reasons, I just really enjoyed using the M6.

So basically this is the hipster version of the M9...

"I'm so over the Leica branding, yet I still want the camera"

I thought a black m9 was discrete enough.

You could just black tape the dot on the standard black M9.

It seems even most Leica users are a bit put off by this one.

From an aesthetic viewpoint, i like that the big "M9" is gone. Even blacked out, I don't care for it. It looks much cleaner without. And I like the script on top. But I do like the red dot on the front.

But as I stated in the dpreview rss thread, the cost for these "upgrades" is redicoulous. I never worry about my screen because I have a Giottos screen protector on it that cost me twenty bucks, and no one can tell it's even there. If I wanted to cover the red dot in an iffy neighborhood, a piece of black tape works fine.

Even worse, is Leica will be offering an upgrade program to send in your M9 and have these parts swapped out for even MORE than the difference in msrp between the two cameras. And plenty of people will line up for it. Crazy.

It's the m9p..... P for pro. So you gotta get the upgrade, unless you're not a pro....

I'm starting to think if leica released the m9.2 super pro with limited edition hello kitty stickers on it. They would still have people throwing money at them. I played around with the m8.2 for a little bit. It's a fun camera to travel with.
