I don't have that particular brand, but I have Genus Neutral Density Fader Circular Filter System 77mm. I think they're about the same.

The filter is helpful if I had an outdoor shoot mid-day and wanted to shoot with a wider aperture. That's all that I use it for.

The only reason I bought the Genus is that it has the markings on the lens that shows minimum to maximum darkness. However, that is used for repeatability and not for measurement.

One thing you have to realize is that, even though the filter thread is 77mm, the outter part is actually wider (82mm) and you probably will not be able to use your hood with this filter attached.

I have it, and have only used it a couple of times. Louis is correct, you cannot put the hood on with it in place. It works well for what it is made for.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I am still trying to decide if I should just get two filters maybe a 4 and 8 or go with the variable. The decrease in sharpness comments have me a little worried.
