Everything I had listed was subject to 10%/year depreciation. The only reason I bought the rider was because the agent swore that the policy was all risk, no deductable, replacement value. Obviously State Farm changed the rules & the agent hadn't kept up.
Ironically, if my stuff is damaged/stolen/burned up/soaked/etc. at home, subject to my normal homeowner's deductable, it will be replaced at current value.

It just happens to be with the same carrier, that's all the relation there is.
I don't insure lower value things like filters, remotes, softboxes, etc.
On the XLS, the serial number is hyperlinked to the B+H page just to make it easy to update. (but I crossed it out here, ya just never know...) Some values (28-80 v1) are just estimates since they are no longer sold new. | Ken,
I called what I had a rider, however it may have been a seperate policy. Ask your agent to verify the terms with the underwriters further up the food chain. My agent was going to pay me for a new 16-35/2.8 lens until the underwriters waved the depreciation flag. I still have to wonder if they weren't making stuff up as they went along since I was claiming $1,600+ for a new lens. My agent did pay for repairs. The lens works.

The insurance company that PPA touts is decent. I've never had to use it yet, but they do cover rental in case you damage your equipment and the deductible is very low. I don't remember what it is exactly, but it was under $100 IIRC. They were very thorough in cataloging my equipment and they said it was just a simple call to add more.

I can tell you from experience that a spreadsheet showing description, serial number, original cost, replacement cost, and when/where you bought the gear will make it much quicker to get a check if and when you suffer a loss.

I also have my camera equipment insured with State Farm and had everything but my tripod stolen last December. My equipment was 3 years old and they did depreciate it 10% per year so I was paid about 70% of my investment. They did not depreciate small articles like filters, wireless remotes, batteries, etc. so the total depreciation was more like 28%. I still have a Personal Articles Policy with State Farm but if I can find a company that will offer a no depreciation policy I will change companies.
For what it is worth they did pay quickly so I was able to replace part of my equipment right away. I am still saving to replace the remainder.

Will these insurances cover computer equipment as well? I don't have homeowner's insurance.

I have state farm and it covers all the equipment I put on their claim along with any computer equipment I use. However, like Tom pointed out on the first page if you sell any of your photos or make any type of profit it will nullify the insurance.

+1x however many others use them on the spreadsheet. Mine lives out on MobileMe and on a couple of drives and on my QNAS server. I really like the link to B&H Ken. Good idea.
As far as I know Canon lenses all have a s/n on them. I have all L glass so I could be wrong. I'm not trying to be pretentious... it's just how it is.
