I was away from my PC for a few minutes and missed out on a great deal. The other guy won a Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.7 already modded for the 5d with the adaptor, for $208.
Unbelievable.!

Shouldn't that be 85mm f/1.8?

I've used several of the Canon 50 1.8 II lenses they are a great lens for the money.

I own a 50 1.4, 50 2.5 macro and an older 50 1.8 with metal lens mount, all are great lenses.

The one thing that sets the 50 1.4 apart from the others is when looking through the view finder how much brighter it is compared to the slower 50's.

All of the above lenses have worked well.

A few more images taken with a "Nifty Fifty".

A fantastic lens for the price. You really can't go wrong.

Although I already have my 50mm f/1.4 manual lens, I picked up the Canon "plastic fantastic" today (90 bucks on craigslist), pretty much solely for the auto focus.

I love my manual 50mm, but it is sometimes a pain to have to dial in the focus manually, especially when shooting wide open. I use it mostly for video now, because it excels in that.

But anyway, I'm excited to have it to play around with on tomorrow's Worldwide Photo Walk!

Hey, Something to keep in mind is that there are many different 50's out there to chose from; not just the Canon 50mm 1.8, but yes this one is the least expensive. Here's a link to another board where a guy did a comparison with a bunch of the different 50's out on the market and peoples comments towards the images. The results are a few pages down but read through everything imo first before looking at the results.

cinema5D • View topic - Let's Play a game. Which is the best 50mm? Match them up!

Although this site is set more towards cinematography I feel that the functions of the glass (shapness, bokhn, etc...) are one in the same. Unless the 50 1.8 is all that's in your price range don't throw out some of the other great choices.

Cheers.

All I can do is read the posts, the site says I don't have permission to view the imagery. Bummer.
