From Nikon site:
Quote:
AF NIKKOR other than type G or D*2: All functions supported except 3D Color Matrix Metering II
AI-P NIKKOR: All functions supported except autofocus and 3D Color Matrix Metering II
DX AF NIKKOR: All functions supported except FX-format (36x24)/5:4 (30x24) image size
Type G or D AF NIKKOR: All functions supported
So I'd say yes, you should be fine since it supports all AF and AF-S lenses.

Your fine....but I would look for an 18-70 lens for that camera...you can pick one up cheap...and it's one of the best kit lenses nikon ever put with a camera...only second to the 18-105 VR kit lens...

The D80 is a great camera...all around...happy shooting...

FYI this move will bring my Daughter and Son into the camera world. I will get them to start lurking this site, and hopefully, get the next generation into the game.....

I've been using the D8o since Dec. 2006 and it's still clickin' (+30k shutter actions). The main reason I got it was that I wouldn't have to upgrade my older AF lenses. Hope you enjoy using the D80...I do mine.

18-55 is an amazingly good kit lens. I don't think this would be a big step up.

Agreed. The 18-55 is plenty of lens. (in fact, it is quite good)

The 18-55 is a good lens, but from what I've seen, the 18-70 is better. That said, if I had the 18-55, I wouldn't lose any sleep over the 18-70.

I shoot D80 too. Any Nikon except Pre-Ai will work. The older manual lenses won't meter or auto focus, but who cares?

I find LOTS of bargains on eBay with the older lenses. I have more than I know what to do with
