I need some advice on a tripod. I have one that I bought at Wal-Mart years ago. It’s light aluminum, plastic and flimsy. I dislike it and use it very little. My wife and I will be going on a Hawai’i vacation/cruise next June and I’m thinking I need to get a new tripod. I have a 7D and will be taking my 70-200mm L and a Tammy 17-50mm f2.8 (along with a flash and other small odd zenens). Please keep in mind that I’ll not use the tripod much before or after the trip. I suspect there will be many opportunities to use a tripod in Hawaii (Haleakala & Mauna Kea). What inexpensive, light/small yet reliable tripod can I get?

Here is what I took to HK about 2 years ago...if you don't mind the size...it's very handy...I keep it in the car now...for those emergency shots...

Joby GP3 Gorillapod SLR - Kit (Pixtus Amazon Page)

Corillapod SLR - Just the legs (Pixtus Amazon Page)

There is a $20.00 difference between the two....which is really the micro-ball head in the kit...which does come in handy...

Good Luck...
