Maximum PC | Cool Site of the Week: Stolen Camera Finder

"Stolen Camera Finder is a site dedicated to--you guessed it--locating stolen cameras. Users are invited to drag and drop a photo taken with their missing camera to the website’s interface. Once the image has been uploaded, Stolen Camera Finder will attempt to read the camera serial number information stored in the photograph, matching it against the serial numbers of images found elsewhere online. If you’re lucky, a serial number match may lead back to user name or image service account, giving you some vital information to feed to the authorities for investigation. "

Stolen Camera Finder - find your photos, find your camera

An interesting looking site. I would like to hear of any success stories they have.

Well, unfortunately, this just came in handy. Not for me, but for my nephew. His truck was in a Mexican restaurant in Humble. When he came out, the lock was broken and the seat was messed up. He looked in the back seat and his camera bag was gone. It has his 7D and all of his lenses and his TC and flash... just about everything he owned except for his 40D body.

I just posted it on the site and just hope we hear something. His wife is watching Craig's List. He's still sitting in the parking lot waiting for the sheriff's deputy to show up to take his info. Dang.

If anyone sees a too good to be true deal on a 7D anywhere, let me know.

Serial number is 670510482.

Patti
