Compact Flash Card Question - 08-08-2011, 10:31 AM

What brand of compact flash memory cards are your favorite? I'm needing some new cards, I've always used san disk and kingston. I am wondering about brands such as Lexar, transcend, duracell, or any other brands you may use.

I've heard that Hoodman is the best. I use Transcend 16 GIG 400x cards.

I've never heard of hoodman, I'll check them out. Where do you buy your Trancend cards?

I also started with 8gig sandisk cards but have moved to transcend 16 gig 400x and have no complaints. I got 2 cards from pixtus amazon for 100 shipped in 2 days.

I use Lexar and Sandisk mostly because I got them when they were on sale and the same price as the Transcends.

I'm set in my ways; I cycle through five 8gb sandisk extreme iii 30mb/sec CF cards. Sandisk has changed up their naming/numbering scheme recently, so i'm not sure what the equivalent is today. I've never had a sandisk card fail me yet (knock on wood), so that's why I stick with them. I've heard good things about hoodman but have never tried them.

My main cards are Photofast Plus 16GB and I have some Transcend 16GB 600x as back ups along with some 8Gb Sandisk 60mbs cards.

I have found that some cards seem to perform better in certain cameras vs other cards so you need to research what camera your using and what cards perfrom the best.

A good place to start is here:

how about a good compact card reader? all I seem to be able to find are USB2 readers and wondering if anyone knows where to find firewire ones. Sorry if this is considered a hijack, I figured it was on the same basis of the OP's post.

One of my links test CF/SD readers and how each CF card performs with them. I use a 800 firewire reader by Sandisk. You can review the link for the best performing reader with the card you use and probably find it at Amazon through Pixtus or any of the other sponsors linked here.

Chris,
I have a Firewire CF card reader. Perhaps we can test it sometime? The brand escapes me at the moment. They are getting harder to find.

I've been using Lexar Professional 400x cards for a while now and been very pleased with them. The Canon 7D can do 8 fps continuous shooting and I haven't had any trouble with these cards keeping up so far. I think 600x is the fastest Lexar makes right now but I found the 400x more than adequate and a better value for the cost, at least for my needs.

sounds good. I found one online through the Pixtus amazon store. Bit pricy but I needed a new one anyways and the crappy 15$ one just wasn't gonna cut it when it takes 30-45min to unload 8gigs of pictures. Depending on work I might or might not be at this months West/ NW meetups.

I just got 2 projects dumped on me and one offshore so dunno where I am gonna be in the up coming weeks lol.
