LOL I am laughing at these responses. Sorry but I haven't seen a wooden tripod. :D Wish I could claim it was youth, but afraid not!

Exactly, Dennis! Yea, I've been too close for comfort to a bison before. You've never seen a short woman jump into a high truck bed so fast!!!

Wayne, it looks pretty solid, actually. I think we are going to stick with the current tripod. LOVIN' this Wimberley head! Need to buy another one. Anyone got one for sale? :)

You guys are crazy: I trapsed all over Yelllowstone last spring. Lots of good photos. Best camera and lens support was a good monopod. Easy to use, light to carry and quicker to hit a bison, Grizzely or bull elk with.

You are either really really strong thus having no difficulty completely stabilizing a 10-plus pound 500mm plus head on your monopod using a shutter of 250 because that's all the light you have, or you aren't using a 10-plus pound 500mm plus head on your monopod at low light.

Bears don't bask in the sun, typically. ;)
