Portable Display Options? - 08-11-2011, 02:39 PM

Back in March I read a post on Chase Jarvis' blog about using an iPad as a display mechanism. I would like to explore this idea more, however its price point makes it prohibitive for me to purchase one at this point.

I would like to find out if anyone is aware of other, less expensive display options.

Thanks in advance for your help

an older used laptop? It only needs to run the software for displaying and have a USB port for a card reader.

saw a 10" (diag) digtial photo frame with pretty good resolution for $150 new at Fry's. Will handle SD and USB inputs.

First off Im not sure what display options youre looking for as in completely portable, bridal show booths, studio meetings with clients etc.

If it's a booth, and/or studio environment with AC power then the way to go is a flat screen tv...

Here's a Samsung 22" LED HDTV for $250 from Amazon:

Pixtus.com: Samsung UN22D5000 22-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV

I bought a Samsung 46" LED for my office that I use as a Digital Photo Frame so I know these work... They have a USB port where you can just plug up your thumbdrive with images and let it play.

At $250 I may just get one of these and find some place to put it!

HI Abel,

I'm sorry for not being more clear. What I want is essentially the same thing that Chase Jarvis used, but not as expensive. I want to be able to take the display(s) and mount them in different stores, and be able to attach headphones to them so that people can listen to the music that I want to have as a sound bed to whatever slideshows I create.

I like the idea of a TV, but would need some mechanism to upload slideshows to them.

Thanks for the ideas...

hmm

yea.. if you want something like he has you'll prolly have to go ipad. tv will just do a slide show on a loop.. if you want people to be able to start the slideshows then the ipad is best... but like you said not cheap. doh.

pretty cool concept

If I can interject here, why not simply have multiple display methods?

Start off with a few of those electronic frames, but have each one show different themes (weddings, birthdays, nature, etc), and when you decide to get a TV, have a hidden connection to a laptop so you can easily go from one album to the next.

After reading the original link, it looks cool. Other than getting bigger digital frames and doing it, one of the comments on the bottom of the page suggested, “This could be done with any of the tablets out there. Even a Nook Color that’s been rooted. Perfect idea for doing for waiting rooms. Alternatively, even doing a whole gallery likes this”. But the Nook color is just only a little cheaper than the Ipad. So it’s a wash to me if I were do it I would use the Ipad.
