can this be done? (wireless equipment info needed) - 08-14-2011, 01:56 PM

Not asking for specific equipment but I want to know if there is actual equipment that CAN do this.

I want to set up a basic portable modeling studio.

First off, is there a camera or modeling lamp....

ex: WolfCamera.com: Westcott (2) Strobe Softbox + Umbrellas

....that can be triggered wirelessly (for example when a photographer takes photos the flash goes off effortlessly). If so, is it a feature a camera has to have or a feature the lamp (or lamp accessory) has to have?

2) I know they make SD cards with wifi that can transmit your photos straight to your laptop, but can it be set up to where you can select which photos go to that laptop before it sends it? Are these wifi SD cards fast at transmitting the data?

I want an uninterrupted fast feed from the camera to the laptop.
Basically my concept is: Point, shoot, shoot shoot (review photos, select which ones to send, send), Repeat.

SD cards that transmit from camera are NOT fast.

Are you wanting to trigger the camera or the flashes remotely? Both can be done.

Your best bet for connecting to the laptop is using a long USB cable.

I heard that eye-fi has a 6 series transmitter now that i heard is pretty fast. Do they have camera's that can do that instead of a card? I don't want a USB cable. I want to trigger the flashes remotely. Basically the photographer would hold the camera and when he hits the button I want the flash to go off from the flash stand box.

yeah that WT-4A is too damn big and too expensive.

Why don't they have bluetooth 3.0 photo-transferring, small and averages 25mbps

also, i've been looking at an iPad2 instead of a PC for transferring transferring my photos, that way I can just connect it to a projector and it mirrors everything on an iPad, slide shows would be easier

Note sure about a modeling lamp, but speedlights and strobes can be fired by a remote camera which is fired by the operator. That is how you get shots from the backboard at basketball games. The photographer triggers the camera which fires the strobes mounted in the rafters.

I have done this in similar fashion with a camera mounted under the basket near the back wall (on a stage in a high school gym). I used a simple wireless trigger and receiver bought off ebay for a few bucks. Transmitter is hand held and the receiver plugs into the side of the camera via cable supplied for the specific camera body. I had an El Skyport Transmitter in the hot shoe. It fired the two Alien Bee strobes mounted on 13 foot light stands from the corners of the gym. Worked up to about 100 feet (far end of the building)

Pocket Wizards, Skyports, Cyber Syncs and the cheeper stuff found on ebay will do that for you also.

As for all that other stuff you are asking about. No clue on this end.
