Please recommend a tripod - 08-20-2011, 05:32 PM

Hello friends, I wanted to see if you can help me find a tripod/head that is suitable to hold a griped D7000 and 70-200 2.8 lens. Not looking for a carbon fiber because of it's cost, my budget is under $250 and have a strong enough head that it won't tilt when doing moon shots. I was reading the review for the Benro travel angel, but I didn't see if it was good to the 70-200 lens.

Thanks

I have not seen the Benro Travel Angel, but it looks like it would work. I would choose a tripod that has fewer sections, as it would be more stable. It is a little over 5ft tall, which if you are tall may not be as easy to use.

A classic old tripod that I have seen over the years is the Bogen (now Manfrotto) 3011. It looks like this is the replacement: Manfrotto 055XDB Black Basic Tripod Legs (Height 18.9 - 70.8", Maximum Load 15.40 lbs). This set of legs usually costs a bit over $100 that leaves you to choose a tripod head and be within your budget.

Consider used. KEH has a pretty good selection.
And if I were in the market again I would purchase a head with about 50% or more capacity that what my camera and lens weigh. Those capacity numbers seem pretty optimistic- at least they were in my case. Wishing I had gone heavier.
