So I guess the loss of the wide angle focal length is not an issue (or are these Digital lenses?). I've read good reports about both but my main expereince has been with the Tamron series, even though I would not get as wide on the focal length as I would want

I have the Tamron it's a very good lens, very sharp and contrasty. It's one of those lenses (like the Tamron 90 macro) that has a reputation for being far better than its price would indicate.

One thing to consider if it matter to you, if you check I think you'll find the Sigma 24-70 is quite a bit larger and heavier than the Tamron. Also, I've seen some complaints that people were disappointed with its performance wide-open.

I've used the sigma 24-70 2.8 for over a year on my fujis. nice and sharp in the studio but problems with backfocusing during weddings has led me to replace it with a 17-55. The sigma has not been out of the cabinet for a month. Its available if anyone is interested.

checked both at the same time on wolf camera. you are right. the sigma is huge and heavy compared to the tamron. tamron was quick to focus too.

tried to see if they would price match b&h but the guys said they dont PM to internet or out of state store.

oh well. thanks for all the replies.
