To use or not to use the new camera tomorrow... - 09-02-2011, 03:11 PM

I'm getting a 5D Mark II today.

I've been previously shooting with the original 5D & a 7D in full manual control.

I just had this quick flash in my head of using the Mark II at tomorrow's wedding and then all my pics being awwwwful.

Is there any real good reason not to use it?! Anything I should be aware of that might throw me off?

Are you not comfortable using it? If not, then hold off till then. If youre a quick learner and adjust on the fly, then run with it

If it were me I'd go with my trusted equipment, just to keep my mind clear of one less possible distraction.

At the very least start shooting today and see if you are comfortable with it. I can't see why you just don't alternatively using both. That way, the bride can see what she's helping you buy. :D

i havent got to hold it yet. lol so im not sure if im comfortable or not. I'm a decent learner i think. I'm going to be walking around a car show with it this evening so as long as there's nothing drastically differently...I think ill be alright.

i guess my question is just... is there anything THAT different? lol

oh ill certainly have the original 5D with me tomorrow! my husband second shoots for me with the 7D (and then ive got a 40D in the car for emergencies). i used to carry the 5D & 40D both with me with different lenses on them....but ever since i got the shootsac, ive only been carrying 1 body on me. I suppose it wouldnt hurt to carry 2 again tomorrow!

use the 5D2... I went from the 5D to the 5D2 and other than setting the custom functions (theres more of them on the 5D2 just read the manual if you dont know what one means) I say use the new one. IMO they are all the same in a way, and if you've played with the menu of the 7D you'll be fine. I say take all 3.

Could it really be that different from the 5D control wise?

haha - im still debating on which to get rid of/which to keep as backup...the 5D Mark I or the 40D...if i sell the 5D (which is gripped), it'll probably be like $1000. I'll post a sale ad probably in the next day or two once i decide!

5D Mark II - 09-04-2011, 09:35 AM

Since yesterday is now the "tomorrow" from your OP does your comment mean you used the Mk II at the wedding? If so, did you have any setbacks with getting up to speed on its functions?

I don't own one - just curious.
