How do you edit copyright info on CF card? - 09-18-2011, 05:05 PM

I bought some equipment in an estate sale. There were several Scandisk Extreme compact flash cards in the deal. When I upload pictures, the previous owner's name is embedded on the card. The pictures appear with copyright credit in their name.

How do I edit the card and change the copyright to my name? Essentially it is the EXIF information I need to edit. I am shooting a 5D MkII. I have no clue how to do it in-camera. I've looked at every menu I can find.

When you take a new photo the old CF card owner's info is placed on the pic? How can that be possible? Shouldn;tt he EXIT data be coming from the camera and not the card?

I agree with Steve, the exif info is coming from the camera. Is the camera you're using second-hand as well?

Once you format a card, it's formatted (erased).

Yes, the camera was also purchased in the estate sale. I agree that the information is being written to the card from the camera. The question is how to edit the information being written by the camera.

I found and installed the Canon utility software, but that seems to have issues as well.

Isn't it funny how it's the small details that make you crazy?

As far as I know, the only way to set the cameras exif info, is with the Canon software. I don't use their software at all, and I hate that I have to install it, just in order to update/add my copyright notice to my images from the camera. However, once done, it doesn't need to be done again, so I quickly de-install the Canon software.

Thanks Todd.

Do you use the EOS utility for this?

Yeah, exactly. I used it once, over two years ago, set my desired copyright info and that was all I had to do.

This might help:

1

Open the Canon 5D Mark II's menu system by clicking the "Menu" button on the back of the camera.
2

Scroll to the seventh menu at the top, indicated by a wrench icon with three small dots next to it.
3

Choose the "Clear settings" command.
4

Choose "Clear all camera settings."
5

Indicate that you agree to clear all the camera's settings.

Thanks Rich. That will at least stop the problem from continuing.
