Help with photoshop cs2 - 01-23-2006, 12:35 AM

I am new to photoshop and digital photo and need some help. Is there any good literature out there that can help me learn to use this software? Or share how you started off and any other good ideas. Also some advice on photo storage and coordination. Thanks!

Is a great book to start with from Scot Kelby. I got a lot of great tips from his book. And he just explains how it has to be done, no strange stories around it.

Good luck and practice makes perfect.

There are a lot of folks on the TPF who have been down the path you're treading. I'm sure some of them will share that knowledge with you and the rest of us.

As for me, I picked up a book by Scott Kelby, "The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers," that has been very helpful to me. It's targeted at Intermediate/Advanced users but Kelby presents it in such a way that I found it easy to grasp as a relative newby.

I also bought "John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide" which is very good if you're into shooting the natural world. I have Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" on order from Amazon for an upcoming photography class. I've heard good things about it.

The "123di" course on CD for about $50 is very worthwhile. I've only scratched the surface of what's available on it. It's available on-line or probably at your local camera shop.

Hope this helps!

I would suggest start with these:

Adobe Photoshop CS2 One-on-One (One-On-One) (Paperback)
by Deke McClelland (CD included which is very good)

Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS2 (Paperback)
by Bruce Fraser

The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) (Paperback)
by Scott Kelby

And at some point you'll want to read this.

Real World Color Management, Second Edition (Paperback)
by Bruce Fraser, Chris Murphy, Fred Bunting

I got CS2 for Christmas and found a lot of useful training (with CD) from "Classroom in a Book" from Adobe. Still it is a big learning curve to feel comfortable... but you will always be learning something new in PS... good luck!

You might want to consider the Total Training programs for Adobe CS2 from totaltraining.com.
