If you can headphone-monitor your recording though, then this puts the D800 ahead, especially if the new sensor is better about the jello shutter problem. | Not so sure about that. Most serious videographers use external sound. Doubt any DSLR is going to be able to catch up to external sound quality. Quote: |
4fps/6fps seems somewhat low, but I guess these are not-yet-confirmed-rumors...
| Big files are really hard to funnel through. It isn't a sports camera. Quote: |
I heard that it will still be 51 focus points. I think that is more than enough, but part of me wishes they would be spread out a little more evenly across the frame and not all in the middle.
| Can't. Limited by the lenses. All FF cameras have the focus points out as far as they [currently] can. Quote: |
most of us don't print at billboard size).
| You'd be surprised about billboards. You don't need ridiculous resolution. I've printed a few cropped in with my 10mp 1d3.
You are viewing it from so far away, it doesn't matter if it is pixelated that much. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

You are viewing it from so far away, it doesn't matter if it is pixelated that much. | I recall a demo on a TV show (several years ago so the digital sensor could not have had that large a MP sensor) comparing 35mm film to a digital capture when blown up to make a banner running from the top of a four or five story building to the ground. There really wasn't any difference. I am still not sure I agree with the result, but are you going to believe your lying eyes or...?
One thing about the D800 rumors is the 300,000 yen price. That's about $3,850 (U.S.) at Nikon's projected exchange rate for 2012 of 78 yen to the dollar. Even if the pricing is less than that, there is still a huge price gap between that and the 5D MK II. I know that it is a different camera in many ways, but there is still a market gap. You have to wonder what Nikon may have up their sleeve to fill that gap or whether they will concede the price point to Canon.

MPs don't win the hearts and minds of your pro-sumer base: ISO and AF performance do. | The apparent target market for the rumored body is the landscape and commercial/studio crowd where resolution does matter. It is not really a "pro-sumer" body because of the price which is rumored to be nearly $4,000.

Wow, that's very coincidental, and I didn't see that coming from a mile away at all. Do you think it means something? Yes, high ISO is important to have, but only to a certain extent. If the D800 performs even "only" as well as the DX-changing D7000, it will be usable up to half the ISO that you're currently getting out of your D700, but with triple the resolution. That's a pretty impressive tradeoff for many.
The D700 to D800 is no different than what Nikon did from the D3 to the D3x. If you don't need it, don't buy it. Stick with your D700 if you want high ISO. Or, if you want better high ISO performance than the D700, pick up a D3s, which performs noticeably better. Everything's a trade-off, there are no free lunches, and Nikon decided that this was a hole in their lineup.
Sorry if my responses are curt, but I'm not a big fan of couch-racing. Don't pass judgements before you've even seen any data, and don't assume that you have more know-how than the whole of Nikon's engineering and marketing departments put together. People were saying the exact same crap about the Nikon 1, for example, until people actually started using it. | I'm not sure why you addressed the above rant to me or why you are carrying on about the D7000 I never mentioned the D7000 so that really makes no sense. That is a camera that replaced the D90 which is two camera's down in the Nikon line from the D700. So I wouldn't expect the D800 to be "at least as good" as the D7000. I along with everyone else would expect it to have way better noise handling ability. The D700 has always been known for its low light capability so it's only logical that its replacement THREE years later would be an improvement. And yes, your answers were curt. No.. actually they were just rude and made you seem rude.

Expect grain free images, printed in A2 up to ISO 1600.
The D800 will range from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 (extended modes ISO 50, 12800 and 25600).
Full HD 1080p in 30p, 25p and 24 p. There will be a PCM recorder.
Like the D4, the Nikon D800 will be able to output uncompressed video on its HDMI port.
What matters for you to know is that the next Sony Full Frame camera will NOT use that sensor. |

It's the D3x replacement, not the D700 replacement.
