Question regarding EXIF Info - 10-12-2011, 08:38 AM

I am looking at the EXIF info and I see a subject distance. Is the subject distance typically accurate? If I have a 500mm lens and my subject distance is 7.1m then that's about 7 yards from the subject, right?

Usually pretty accurate. The subject distance is recorded by the autofocus.

I see. And that information would not change if you crop the image during processing correct?

Cropping doesn't change the distance from the lens to the subject. You can do all kinds of stuff and it won't change the EXIF. That is the data recorded when the shot was taken.
