You know it's been so long since Nikon released a camera in the D-700 range of things I catch myself wanting to see something new from them. Then I go out like I did today take a few hundred shots, go home and download them and suddenly I'm just as impressed as I was when I first bought bought the thing three years ago. What a camera, it feels just right in my hands, works great, and is more than I deserve. I have to say that cameras have reached the point that computers did a few years ago; you can keep them for a good long time and not not feel as if you have to buy a new one just to keep up with things. Way to go Nikon!

Agreed. Paired up with my 70-200 VR II, it's unstoppable.

Got to admit it is great with the 70-200 hooked on the front. Another rumor about a D-800? I'll believe it when I see it!

The D800 announcement WAS scheduled for next week, but considering how far back Nikon has been set by natural disasters (their Thailand factory is currently half under water, they can't even get to it yet to assess the damage), they have cancelled all product announcements. It's completely understandable, they're going to be hard pressed to hold even their current supply and product line.
As to sticking with your old camera and being happy, welcome to the club! I stepped off the technology upgrade merry-go-round and traded in my D90 for a D200. I'm happier with my camera, and I feel no need to upgrade anything body-wise or lens-wise any more! Sure, if the eventual D400 drives D300 prices down to great-price levels, there are some features I'd love to periodically have, like live view for critical, tripod-mounted autofocus and imrpoved battery life. Having the D7000-type autofocus assist arrows would be great (like my N2020 had, Nikon's first autofocus camera from the mid 80's!). However, I'm perfectly happy, and I'm at a point where I see no reason to invest more money into camera bodies. The only thing I want now is more strobes!

I went from 200 to 700 and it was night and day difference. Especially in regards to noise.

I loved the D100 body, then I loved the D2x body and D200 body now I love the D3 body, each time I felt their was no reason to upgrade, does anyone see a pattern here?
Just saying,

Yup, here's two shot from friday's shoot, at 14mm.
I get very little edge distortion with this lens. Just a great combo.

Yep, the 14-24 is an excellent lens on either system, Nikon or Canon with an adapter of course.

Especially in regards to noise. | Tried it. It's amazing. Can't justify the premium of buying it. I was up to the D90, when I was able to go in on a lens trade that got me:
-Tamron 17-50, screwdrive autofocus, no IS
-Sigma 50-150
-Nikon 300 f/4, pre-AFS version
-D200 body, pretty worn out, for effectively $150 (after confirming that Nikon would rebuild it for $250 to like-new condition, which they have done)
I really like all these lenses. I really feel my lens search is complete. Along with the lenses I already have, while I wouldn't turn down any lenses, I feel that I have all the speed and image quality that I want. If I were to step up to the D700, not only would I have to spend $2,000 on a camera body instead of the $400 that I have, but I'd need to swap out my lenses for a kit that included the Tamron 28-75 (or Nikon 24-120), 70-200 VR, a new standard lens, etc. I could just buy a nice strobe setup off Craigslist right now for $700 that would make my pictures look much better than getting back into the upgrade game. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
