Like Wayne said, it's more about the user experience. And knowing that Leica and zeiss make the best glass. Too many variables and loss of pixel info to judge those or other photos online. You have to experience two things for yourself. The simplicity of using a leica rangefinder (vs a dslr) and viewing the images on your computer or in large prints. Honestly, i have images from both my M9 and D700 that most people wouldn't be able to tell apart. But the enjoyment I get out of using the M9 far exceeds the D700. The M9 is the only camera I'll travel with. The M9 is what I leave the house with. The M9 is the first camera I consider. The D700 is the tool I grab when the M9 isn't really the best choice.

If you are really interested, this is the lengthy review that finally convinced me that the M9 was for me.

Liberating is the best way that I can describe it. And I'm using "the worst Leica ever made" with the antique, heavy metal recording sensor material.

ps: Only people who have never used the M5 would make such a statement and only on the internet.
