CPS recently changed the way you can qualify for the service. Points are now assigned to products and it looks like more products can add to the tally.
Silver level is free - you don't get much, but its free. If nothing else, a handy place to keep those serial numbers.

Might be worth while for equipment heavy folks to look at the higher paid levels - nice repair discounts.

You now get points for all your Canon gear including speedlites, TC's, battery grips, etc.

I've been a CPS member for years now. It IS worth signing up for, since they will process and repair your gar faster than the consumer repairs. However, I was mad at Canon for taking away the 20% repair discount from the silver level. They almost force you to pay for the gold membership, if you send off one or two pieces of gear every year. Gold gets 30% off and even faster repair and free shipping. That means that gold can pay for itself with one repair.

As a plat member and one who sending off a 580ex flash tomorrow that had an allergic relation to a cement sidewalk I can say without question being a CPS member is well worth the membership fees (though it took time for me to believe that as it is a lot of money)

so what does that repair cost end up looking like for you?

Not sure on this one as I am sending it off today, but normally my flashes cost me around 67 bucks to repair. That goes for simple to complete rebuild it seems. I will update you on this cost when I find out. Again this flash is completely gone. Worst case yet for me so we shall see :)

if they would just not break something when they fix it....my 50d is going back today to fix the finder display which they broke repairing my shutter.....on a positive note the shutter is now working fine. that repair was $214 and altho it took a WEEK between receiving the package at their facility and logging it into their system, the actual repair was done in less than a day and shipped back to me that same day, receiving it the next day.

They promised to expedite the re-repair...
