Canon 40D Focus - 10-25-2011, 09:14 AM

Hello,

I have Canon 40D about 2.5 year old with around 20k actuation. I just noticed that I am not getting the sharp image in the lcd as well as in the image viewer on the computer. I tested the lens with other camera and it's talking sharp image while zoom 100%. What do you think will be an issue? Any suggestion are most welcome.

Thanks,

Do you have the camera set to manual focus? Did the previous owner set the camera to AF with the back button instead of the shutter? Reset the camera back to factory settings, read the manual, and go slowly.

Have you tried it with other lenses? Sometimes one lens will not focus well while others will.

I tested with the other camera 50D and it looks okay. I don't know whether it's camera issue or that's default setting for 40D. I am using Tripod (Manfrotto 055) I tried with AF and MF but the same result.

Yes, but different lenses may have issues with different cameras thanks to many factors. My 85/1.4 focusses perfectly on my A900 but not my A100, but most other lenses focus well on both.

If you have another lens to try on your 40D you can try and determine if the camera has an AF issue or if it is only with that camera body and lens combination.

it sounds like a "new" issue, so double and triple check ALL your settings. maybe do a reset.

Got the solution. - 10-25-2011, 11:59 AM

That's what canon rep told me to do to set to factory reset. I will check it out and will post the results.
