Help - Nikon D7000 SD Card Errors - 11-06-2011, 08:25 AM

Please help.

I am getting ready for my first wedding that is 2 weekends from now.

Last night when taking shots with my D7000 (primary body) I started getting errors with some new memory cards. I have just bought SanDisk Extreme HD Video 16 GB class 10 cards. The camera started showing card errors and flashed a message on the LCD saying that the card is corrupt and cannot be read. The cards stop working in the camera but the images could be read and downloaded on a laptop. I've purchased 6 cards in 3 seperate orders from B&H. All of these cards show intermittant errors!

Of these 6 cards I have cards from two different manufacturing lots. I've tried low level format on my laptop and then format in the camera before use. I've also master reset my camera back to factory specs as another precaution.

I've gone back to my origional set of memory cards (Sandisk 8 GB class 10) and have yet to get an error. The Nikon manual shows that the 16 GB cards are compatable.

I have yet to call Nikon but will call them and Arlington Camera tomorrow to ask for help.

Anyone have any other thougths for troubleshooting? Do you think that the camera is not compatable with a 16 GB card?

Have you tried taking your 16 gig cards and try them on another D7ooo, like a friends or even a store (Best Buy or camera Shop)?
This way you can find out if it's your Sandisk cards or it could be your camera...

good luck...

Sounds like the cards are bad, but thats just guessing. If I start getting any errors with my cards I throw 'em out and get new ones. Too cheap not to.

Thanks for the tip. I will try to make a trip to a store with a D7000 and test the cards that I have.

I did call Sandisk today, the told me to call Nikon and trouble shoot there. Called Nikon and they said it might be the memory cards. Somewhat a circular reference getting pointed back between vendors.

Still a weird experience, this is the first time that I've used 16GB cards and have had good luck with the Sandisk 8GB cards.

I think that I'll be calling BH for replacements.

Do you have a point and shoot cam? If so, try the cards in that, or a friends, similar to what Angel was saying.

I agree with your thought that my 6 new cards are bad. I'll be sending them back for replacements.

Thanks for your help!

I've got my backup D80. My next experiement will be flogging the cards in it before heading to a store to test cards tomorrow.

If the cards work in the D80, I am wondering if the D7000 is having issues with this version of 16 GB cards.

Someone just posted that the firmware update will fix it not reading some cards:

Quick update. Took the camera and 4 of the 16MB card out yesterday to the Spokes 4 Hope Police motorcycle rodeo.

I was able to take over 400 images with 7 videos across the 4 memory cards without errors. It looks like the firmware upgrade saved my camera a trip back to Nikon since the cards work in all of my other devices (2 laptops, Nikon D80)

Thanks to all that provided input to help me troubleshoot my D7000 problems. A special thanks to TheFantasticG (Garret) and Auddii (Audrey) for finding and posting the link to the firmware upgrade.
