Fuji X10 - 11-16-2011, 10:13 AM

I got mine last week in time for my trip to Orange County, California. So far so good, but to soon to tell. Initial impressions, very well built, good ergonomics, fantastic 360 pano mode, quick on-off, manual zoom, good autofocus, quiet, etc. If anyone is interested, I have an X10 Gallery on my website showing my first photos taken with it in Newport Beach.

Dennis, to me it was very fast, faster than what I can do with my M9 and aging eyes! The shutter-release time lag is supposed to be only 0.01 sec, according to Fuji. The best features of the camera, IMHO, are the "small" size, good control buttons, fast on-off by twisting the lens, fast zoom lens, affordable, etc. It is a great travel camera.

What about the noise in your shots, even at low iso. Is that just a product of your b/w processing?
Especially noticeable in the beach skies and sea gull shots.

I do have to say that some of those have a nice 3D quality to them.

Dennis, that was from my pp. I tend to prefer photos with more texture, graininess. When I get home, I will try to post a jpg straight out of the camera. Since this is a P&S camera, I did not use Raw at all because I did not want to spend the time using another software.

Here's a nice hands-on review.

Dennis, thanks for the link. I agree with him in most points. As far as focusing accuracy and speed are concerned, a Nikon D700 will put most cameras to shame! However, for a small camera that you can have with you all the time, this Fuji is a big winner. I still have a Canon G9 (too bulky), a Sony NEX-5n (too menu-driven), a Leica d-4 Lux (no OVF), a panasonic dsomething... This Fuji just simply feels well made, the buttons clicks and locks positively... Like Jim had written, it just feels good in the hands! For $599, it feels great in the wallet too... I still have to shoot it a lot more to come up with more pros and cons.

Thanks for the link. I really like Jim's work. He used to use the K5 (maybe he still does). I think whatever he has in his hands, he can use to make nice shots.

Fuji X10 becomes second camera - 11-16-2011, 06:52 PM

My Nikon D7000 with its four nikon lenses, two flashes, battery grip and GPS are going on the for sale forum in a couple of days. My fuji X100 becomes my go to camera and my X10 becomes my back up. No more DSLR's for me to lug around. The X10 is a super little camera.

Wish I had an M9, but if I did it wouldn't be available to trade.

We all have our wishes. Once the M10 comes out, there will be quite a few great second-hand M9 to be had for a good price, if not, you can always buy an M4, 5, or 6 and use film.
