Hey guys,
Have any of you actually done hands on comparisons withe the V1?
Alot of reviews that flame it are on specs, not actually usage...
I have read some Very favorable reviews by professional photographers who bought it. Obviously, it is not to be compared with a D3. But it seems to get rid of my biggest grip of compact cameras - shutter lag.
I want a solution for hiking (light) and the two lens setup seems like it might be the ticket.
Specifically, I have questions regarding:
1. Build quality
2. Can shots at 800 ISO be usable
3. menu system - how easy to use for exposure comp.
4. how would IQ compare to my older D300 and 18-200 which I use alot, abeit that the sharpest lens (probably one of my least sharp lenses)
I use a G11 today for my point and shoot and love the build and knobs... ISO is not great after 400 IMO and limited focal length.
Thanks!

There were some nice shots from the J1 posted. I tried one at HCE and liked it, but no comparisons. If I was smart I would have put my card in it, but I forgot to.

There are two threads about this on page 1 alone: 'A Few Nikon 1 J1 Shots' 'Nikon 1 J1 @ ISO 3200'
And on page 2 of equipment talk: Nikon V1 in the field - Kirk Tuck 'Nikon J1 @ ISO 1600'
Google will answer any additional questions you have about the camera, plus the trusted reviewers' websites like Steve Huff and Thom Hogan. In addition, given the price drop at places like B&H (and maybe the pixtus/Amazon referral store?), you can just buy and return the camera if you are unhappy with it in the first 30 days.

Ariel,
Do you have both the 10-30 and 30-100 lens? What is the filter size? Just sizing up what my total cost in a new system would be.

I don't have one, since I already have the micro 4/3 Panasonic G2 and am happy with its performance and handling. I did buy the J1 from Best Buy, but couldn't justify keeping multiple cameras around, plus I'd like for the Nikon 1's to drop a bit in price. I think they're great, but they're moderately overpriced at this time. If you don't mind the $200-$300 hit, and you want to invest for the future, it's a great system. If the AF-S adapter works well, I can't wait to adapt lenses like my 55-200VR and 35mm f/1.8 to it; I can see myself dropping Panasonic. Especially the amazing autofocus and metering accuracy, what a dream!
As far as filter size, after a quick google search, it seems that the 10-30mm lens has a 40.5mm filter and the 30-110mm lens has the same size, 40.5mm. Nikon | Imaging Products | 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 Nikon | Imaging Products | 1 NIKKOR VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6

Ed, have you tried any filters on the 10-30 lens, such as a polarizer or ND? Any vignetting?

hmmmm, just thinking if I sold my G11, lensmate stuff, extra battery, flash I can get close to half the money for the V1 wish list i have at BH.
hard to let it go, though...
I bet IQ is much better on the V1.

I'd like one for macro... That extra reach @ 2.7x is awesome. But, the cost is just too high for the body and f mount adapter. I will have to wait until they start surfacing on the used market.

Interesting that you mention macros, Garret. I was looking through my lenses and found my old 55 Micro and 105 Micro - I thought, wow! the 55 becomes like a 150 micro in a Very small size. Plus it is a very sharp lens. I will be getting the adapter as well!
