I have and I never would again. Terrible return policy and my lenses were not in the condition advertised nor did they work properly. I should have just bought new.

Thank you again, Pixtus! - 01-28-2012, 05:50 PM

My brother just saw this website and called them on the phone to see if they were legit. He had the "too good to be true" feeling but he was pleased with what the rep had to say on the phone.

IIIIIIiiiiiiii tend to harbor A LOT more skepticism in my mommy body and trust not a website. Camera Exchange is down the road, thank you.

I think I trust lensrentals more. They have a good return policy and are good about their ratings.

Borrow Lenses is definitely a legit company. Nothing shady about them. I just wouldn't buy any gear from them. Asking for trouble.

What Tom said. I have rented gear from them three times with no problems at all.

Don't think I would buy used gear from any rental company unless I could see and test it first.

I purchased a 70-200mm f/2.8 L from lensrentals.com. It was in better condition than they described and the price was good too. I'm totally happy. Maybe I just rolled the dice and got lucky. They do have a 3 day return policy so if it's crap you can send it back.

BorrowLenses is just down the road from me. (Okay, an hour down the road). But even so, I could just drive over there and test out whatever I was thinking of buying.

That being said, I know a lot of people don't take the same kind of care, of gear that they have rented as opposed to gear that they own.
In other words, it gets beat up a lot.
It's like buying a used rental car. You don't know if the last guy was using it for a drag race or not.

Yeah, I have this policy when it comes to equipment - if I'm going to spend hundreds of dollars on a lens I want to touch it first and I definitely wouldn't buy from a rental company.

HOWEVER, as I am a young pup and average about one wedding a year I think renting a prime lens for my one wedding is a pretty fair deal.

THe contrary point is that it was probably serviced or cleaned and checked every week when it was returned.

One would hope.

I have first hand knowledge of a buddy who used to work for Avis.
They took Chevy Camaro's out at night, and went four wheeling with them.
Brought them back with the floor boards having dents up into the passenger cabin from bottoming out.
When at Intel, they had a guy who was here for a short time to learn a new toolset.
He took his rental car, and raced it at Sears Point International Raceway on the weekends.

Granted, you aren't going to take a lens of a camera body four wheeling, or out for a drag race, but the point of abuse is the one I was trying to make.
