I own a 7d so it is obviously the greatest camera that canon has ever produced....

or not.

Give us a few clues as to what you shoot now, what you are looking to improve on, what you are generally trying to accomplish with a new camera, and how you intend to use it, and we can better answer your question as to what might fit you best

I want to improve image quality/sharpness in low light situations. I currently use the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM and Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lenses. I also would like something with quicker shutter speed for sports. But mostly shoot kids, families, brides and sports... and everything in between with the family.

based on this...id probably say go 7D. I've got it AND the 5DII - and you wont see me at a wedding without the 5D. However, if it's speed I want? It's the 7D I grab.

Based on what you shoot and "need & want", you need 5d II and the 7D...if not, the 60D.

5D MK II Grip | Canon 7D Grip | Canon 85L II | Canon 17-40L | Canon 35L | Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS Mark II | Canon 100L IS Macro | 580 EX II (2) | Plus other toys

Which rebel do you currently have -- what is the max ISO on it?

What kind of low light situations are we talking?

given your stated aim, here are the following comparisons to the 5d vs the 7d

5d will have better noise handling in lower light
7d has better focus engine
7d has fast frame per second
7d has a crop factor which will have the apparent advantage of making your subject seem closer (ie long glass seem a bit longer)
5d will allow your 24-70 to be much wider than on the 7d

The 5d is an amazing camera, and con produce some stunning images in the right hands, but the 7d is not all that far behind, and the focus system is really a nice step up from the 5d

THANK YOU!!! for the responses! I have the Rebel XSi (2yrs old) and ISO goes up to 1600 which I find my pics to be not very crisp even when I sharpen in LR.

2nd in a 7d. In fact, I bought mine from the Canon Direct refurbished site. When it came, it looked brand new. Was told that it could have been overstock, etc. comes with a 90 day warrantee.

I like the 7D enough that I own two of them. I did, however, SERIOUSLY consider a 5D2, rather than the second 7D, to get what might well be better low-light performance. A clean, pre-owned 7D would not have lasted long at HCE at that time, so I only waited overnight to decide. I still wonder whether I made the right choice, but remote flash or long exposures enable me to do what I need in low light, thus far.

The only reason I could see favoring the 60D over the 7D would be for video, but I do not shoot video, and the 60D was actually dumbed-down a bit from the 50D, presumably to help meet a price point. One of the things dumbed-down is micro-focus adjustment, one of those things that one does not realize is so important, until a perfectly good $1300+ camera does not quite auto-focus properly with a perfectly good $1600+ lens.
