A friend of mine has these two cameras and said I can have one. What would you take and why?

I am a Sony shooter so I have nothing for either camera

The nikon served me well throughout my childhood, so I'm a fan. And you really can't beat old nikon/nikkor glass.

The FM2 can use many currently-made Nikon lenses. (not the G lenses) When Canon went to the EOS system in about 1987, the old FD lenses were orphaned. FD lenses are still available as pre-owned items.

Old film cameras may well need the light seals replaced by a camera shop. This is not overly expensive.

The FM2 is very close to my FM3A, and I find my FM3A a joy to carry and shoot.

I had a F1 that I bought new in 1981 and still worked perfectly when I sold it 25 years later. Other than replacing light seals no problems looked like a true veteran with the brass showing thru.
That being said - any lens you get for that camera will not work with Canon EOS. Many lens you get for that Nikon will still work with the new cameras. Don't know if that will matter to you or not.
BTW, what a great friend to have.

Craig...I would do the FM2....(Pulling up in a black car, opens trunk to show all the nice Sony Gear Craig could own for the right price......) I have a nice Nikon to Sony MA adapter with AF confirmation...for a 50 1.4 lens...that you can buy for $40.00...it actually works for all lenses...

That should swing you to the Nikon-Side...
