Best place to buy... - 12-16-2011, 11:38 AM

I'm about to purchase a Canon 7D & was wondering if you guys had an opinion of who I should purchase it or not purchase it from. Obviously want the biggest bang for my buck (any company you know of that throws in extras w/ the lowest price) and a place with excellent customer service :). Been searching the net, but wanted a personal opinion. Thanks guys!!

One of the pixtus affiliates so you can get a free premium membership?

Seriously though, I've only bought camera equipment from B&H who I had no problems with and had prompt delivery. Never had to deal with their customer service, but I've heard mostly good things about them (there is one thread here somewhere where it took them several weeks to refund his money when he returned a purchase).

You can buy a refurbished one from Canon if they still have there sale going on for >$1200 shipped. They only carry a 30 replacement and 90 warranty. And the glass is on sale to! Amazon did have them on priced IIRC $1400

The ones that throw in extras are the one to stay away from.

B&H or Amazon for mail order. Houston Camera Exchange or Best Buy locally.

To me it's a no-brainer. Best Buy for sure. Get the black tie with accidential. You are more likely to take your camera a few places you normally would not. For example I just took mine hiking in Rocky Mountian Park. Nothing happened but it was good to know if it was banged around it was covered.

best buy would be the absolute last place I would buy anything.

I personally stick to online...and these are the places I have ordered from and never had any issues.

-amazon (from amazon, not a reseller)
-canon
-B&H
-adorama

I wouldn't veer too far off that list. if the online deal is too good to be true, it probably is. pop a name of someone else into the search box here and learn from others.

If you want to make the drive, Arlington Camera (http://www.arlingtoncamera.com) is often competitive with body prices and some lenses. It would be an opportunity to support a local small business as well. Just make sure to call ahead to verify stock status.

As others have said, you can't go wrong with Amazon, B&H, and Adorama dot coms.

In addition, I have had nothing but good experiences with pmidigital on Ebay. Right now they have a 7d body for $1294 and a 7D Body w/ 18-135mm IS SLR KIT for $1600.
Also, they are an authorized Canon retailer. What's really cool about pmidigital is that they have all kinds of combinations.

Happy hunting!
