Custom Camera Settings - What are yours? - 12-25-2011, 05:44 PM

So I just received my Canon 7D. This is the first camera I have had that I can set up custom profiles on my dial (C1, C2, C3).

I am curious to see how everyone has their settings set.

I have looked around online and the majority of articles I read have their settings set up for birds and/or HD Video Settings.

I do not see myself utilizing the Video much on this camera personally.

So what do you have?

I don't have the 7D, but here's a thread that might help you.

Lexie,

Thanks for that link! It wasn't exactly to what I was asking, however, it was certainly something I was just trying to figure out. =) Many thanks for that.

This one has to do with the C1, C2, C3, modes that you customize on your dial that are selected using the same wheel as the M, Av, Tv, P...

I set up C1 C2 and C3 for specific settings at specific venues when I know I will need to quickly change settings. Otherwise, I don't use it.

For instance, if I know my subject will run from sunny to shade, I will have each of those settings locked in so I can just flip the knob to go one to another.

Thanks Tom!

Bryan, I honestly haven't played much with that mode. Is it really beneficial. I tend to shoot full M or Av.

I use the sports setting discussed in the thread linked above with minor tweaks. When not set there, I am generally on manual now but may vary to Av or Tv once in awhile depending on what I'm shooting, a portrait, a landscape. Variety is the spice of life.

At airshows, I'll have C1 and C2 as settings for prop planes vs jets.

I have all my bodies set to use the * button on the back for focusing, for several reasons.

Video is great on this camera, but have a stable platform (at least a monopod) because the ergonomics without extra doodads don't lend themselves to good handheld shots in most cases.
