How Many of You Shoot Tethered? - 12-26-2011, 10:56 AM

I know how to tether, but have not started to utilize this feature in my photography. I know it is more realistic for studio work so I am certain none of you sport or wildlife pros use this in your work.

Of those of you who shoot in studio, how many shoot tethered to their pc/mac/ipad?

Do you find this to be beneficial or to be more of a hassle?

Typically tethered from the Phase One/Hassy to the Mac Pro on a wheeled cart. 23" calibrated display for most accurate color/exposure evaluation. Use Capture One software. Since the LCD on the back of the P45 is junk for chimping, it's more of a necessity if you want to see your work. Then again, I can always load up the film back. Pretty much the same.

Set up my 40D w/ my laptop during a party last year. Had it taking a shot every 60 seconds. Nothing special, just full-auto for the evening. Then took my 7D around taking shots off & on all night. After the party all the pics were dropped into MovieMaker and a soundtrack added. The entire night plays in a little under 5 minutes.

If you shoot "people" and are tethered, they tend to want to come "look" at every damn shot :)
I dont use it myself, but I know some like it.

So don't let 'em.

I'll give them a shot or two to see at the start of the set, then it's just for me. Unless they're doing something and can't understand what I'm telling them. Then it's a tool, not a crutch. Get the shot and move on...

Both are very good points. I had not considered the fact that they would want to see every shot. However, I don't know if it would be too much more than they already want with looking at the dslr. I do let my clients see the photos from time to time to show them what we have to build their esteem and confidence as well as a teaching tool to show them soemthing that we need to correct.
