Nikon AF-S 85mm 1.8G Announced - 01-06-2012, 11:49 AM

Along with the D4, Nikon has also announced an update to the 85/1.8.

Nikon launches AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 G: Digital Photography Review

$500, with AF-S, a gelded backside, and SWM.
No ED or Nano elements.
9 elements, 9 groups, 7 rounded blade diaphragm, 67mm filter.

I see it as not very exciting overall, but that it does add a modernized option for those stepping into portrait photography.

Interesting. But I think the older 85 1.8 is still just fine.

But think about all those low end bodies that can't use other than AF-S lenses. That's the hole this lens is meant to fill. And at .5K it's not a bad entry point.

True if you bought one of those bodies. One of the main reasons I didn't go that route with my bodies though. I didn't want to be limited to the lenses I could fully use all capable functions, not to mention the $$ I saved.
