Remote Shutter Release Problems - 01-06-2012, 11:38 PM

I bought a Polaroid Battery Grip for my 60D that also came with a remote shutter release. for some reason the remote shutter release does not work. i am not sure what the problems is. i have changed the batteries several times. Im not sure if there is a specific setting in which i need for that or not.

Amazon Amazon

That is the link to Amazon where i bought it. I just thought i would try on here and see if the problem can be resolved before i contact Polaroid. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

it appears to be an infrared remote which means it must be pointed directly at the grip.

1st make sure the battery in the remote is good, remove it and make sure there isn't anything like a small piece of paper preventing the battery from making contact.

next, find the dark red window on the grip, that is where the receiver is located. the receiver must be able to 'see' the remote when you fire it so point the remote's end with the transmitter directly at the receiver. The remote's transmitter is either a similar looking dark red window, or 1 or 2 small clear plastic 'bumps' (these are infrared LEDs).

The infrared remote is only what the show on the website. The Remote you actually get with the grip is much different, and i doubt it is infrared. The one i got with the grip is much smaller and looks nothing like the one shown in the pictures. It still doesn't not seem to work.

are there any small switches on the remote? it may be up to 4 little sliding switches. If ther are, there are a matching set on the grip. all of the little switches must be set exactly alike on both for them to talk to each other.

No, there are no switches on either the remote or the battery grip.

Other descriptions indicate this is an IR remote with a 30ft limit.

Recommend you stand close and rotate the camera while clicking the remote to see if there is a sweet spot it needs, then play with the distance, and the ambient lighting that may interfere with the IR.

One short review even says "I think they should have put the sensor somewhere else because there is not much room for it to see the emitter."

That does not seem to work either. I have contacted Polaroid and am awaiting their reply.

It's supposed to work out of the box. I used one for my 30D, but instead of mine not working it would randomly take a shot. The grip itself was fine, but those remotes are junk.

If the purchase is still within the return time frame I would contact Amazon instead.

I have a D40 battery grip with an IR shutter release.
It has a small trap drawer which contains it's IR trigger.
This sits under the camera's IR receiver and must be open to work.
Also there was some sort of setting I had to perform in the camera's menus
for the two to pair and work.

Haven't used it in over a years so I just recall generalities.
