This Evening's Nikon E Series 50 1.8 Project - 01-10-2012, 12:14 AM

I've been wanting to buy a cheap old full manual lens for awhile since I feel like I'm getting lazy. I'm hoping using a manual lens will help me have a better eye for focus and composition.

So this weekend I bought a broken old 50 1.8 off a forum member, but the problem got worse during shipping so the lens was pretty unusable when I got it (I can't complain it was only $20).

So I proceeded to tear into my first lens tonight.

The Aperture blades had become separated from their mechanism...

So I opened her and realized it was unrepairable with out a new diaphragm(?), So I just removed it, and I'll practice nailing the focus at 1.8 the whole time.

It was also very rusty inside, it looks like it had it's share of water/condensation.

And here is the first shot of it's own guts leaning on the computer, a shot of the finished product and another sample.

My Goal is to not take this lens off the camera this month.

Tonight I brought the lens over to my parents and my Mom saw it and said "neat, we've got a few of those" And brought out this stuff. Apparently I forgot about it.

It's got a few primes at or below 2.8 and a few good filters! Now to find a decent m42 adapter, any suggestions?

Also a few of the pics from the 50 today.
