Im thinking how Nikon laid out this page, is how they define pro, prosumer, consumer

FX - pro
DX 1k price point - prosumer
sub 700 - consumer

I think the FF bodies are generally considered pro. The D300 and 7D are generally considered Prosumer. Everything below that is consumer. But it all varies based on the opinion of the one judging.

"What is art?"

I know a couple of Canon 1D series shooters that consider everything else to be prosumer or consumer... you pay $6K for a body and you get a little snobbish.

And I know pros who do quite well with bodies that even you would consider a consumer body.

I figure cameras with out a dedicated button to changing ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture, WB, BKT, between Raw/JPEG or Exposure Compensation ... is a consumer camera to me.

Always thought the "pro" went on behind the camera?

You may like to sound all humble and righteous, but even though I may be able to get the job done with a cheap p&s, it's NOT considered a pro level camera. Period.

The first two replies to this thread are the ones that best answered the question.

"If you really think one camera can take a better picture, then stop taking pictures and start selling cameras" I was told this by my boss back when I was a newbe (1970) when I thought a Hasselblad would help me be a better photographer. I is about the photographer not the camera. I agree, the pro should be behind the camera.
Just saying,

As per Nikon's brochure, the D300s is "designed for the professional and serious photographer", which doesn't meet the above definition. But I believe, in my own opinion, that the equipment does not make the professional, it's the photographer and how he/she uses that equipment.
