If they did this...could they loose there license...??? Plus who would pay for something that was unknown...??? I would not plop 3K down for an item that has not been announced...

Most-likely...it is someone doing a very good photoshop edit...

There is no law against taking a deposit. If the item doesn't materialize you simply refund the deposit.

because a customer wants to put some money down and be the first in line. we all know its coming. or something is coming rather.

I guess someone should pay a visit to Houston Camera Exchange and see ...

Or just give them a call and confirm it.

I heard an employee explaining their deposit policy to a customer, though the subject was a very rare Leica lens. (a Summilux or Noctilux, as I recall; either one being thousands of $ total cost) A deposit simply buys the customer a place in line, and is handled like a first right of refusal. The deposit is actually minimal, as they do not really like to hold a large amount of someone's money.

Yes, indeed. I have been doing some reading on the subject, and following Steve Huff's blog.

Pre-order D800 from Houston - 01-21-2012, 07:13 AM

A week ago when this first broke, I looked up the store, it is the real deal. I called and spoke with a sales rep who confirmed the catalog # and price of $2,699.99 on the Nikon D800 from their computer. I was asked if I wanted to pre-order the camera, but there was no 'expected delivery' info.

Pre-order D800 from Houston - 01-22-2012, 05:32 AM

I agree with the last post... $50.00 is a deposit, $2,699.99 is some serious cash. The moderator's commenting should call the store themselves and "clear the air", since there seems to be more than a bit of confusion.
