Anyone Ever Rent from Camera Exchange, San Antonio - 01-20-2012, 10:01 AM

Has anyone rented a lens from them? I was looking at renting the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM for a wedding in May.

I have been there, but never made a purchase from them. I didn't even know they had rentals.

They have a lot for rent. They require a deposit plus the daily rental fee. I can't afford to purchase L series lenses but I want the best possible pics for this upcoming wedding so I think I'm going to go this route.

Not yet. Tom has sent me a couple of links about lighting and equipment that I want to read before I buy anything. At first I was going to get a four light Cowboy Studio set up because it was inexpensive - but I've decided I really need to just start building my lighting arsenal piece by piece with quality equipment I will actually use and is versatile. I'm a more for the money kind of girl.

There were a couple of nice deals on the elinchrome starter setups in an Adorama small catalogue I got in the other day. I'll see what they are over the weekend and post them for you and maybe you can get some feedback about them.

Ha, ha! That's basically what I told my husband! They want $900.00 for a particular lens I was wanting to rent and that lens retails for $200-$300 more. If we had $900.00 to part with for a couple of days, we'd just muster up the last couple hundred and buy the danged lens.

Turns out, however, the particular lens I was looking at renting my dad owns. So I'm just going to borrow his and pay the shipping and insurance. That way I won't get charged for wanting to keep it a day or two extra and I know its been taken care of very well.
