You REALLY need to stop teasing me like that Sonny.

It's bad enough to talk about it as a new lens, but to put it in as a Kit Lens for the suspected 5dMkIII? You're KILLING me!

Sorry Alan.

If the 24-70 did come with IS I'd be all over it. This would be perfect for a shaky handed photog as myself.

Hey, my gun belt is still at the same setting it was 28 years ago!

I have to be really hungry to want a doughnut.

Seriously, though, the intro of a weather-sealed 24-70mm 2.8L with IS would certainly get my attention. I have some interest in event photography, and some of my present scenes could be shot more handily with a zoom in this range, especially now that I have acquired a (pre-owned) 5D1.

Seems like it might weigh a ton though. I know some people insist heavier lenses reduce shake, but personally, my arms start shaking when I try and hold heavy ones in the same place for long periods of time.

You just need to get those noodle arms into shape.

Yes, weight has become a concern for me, too, as my right wrist has good days and bad days. (A touch of CTS; some days more than a touch...) It is not just weight, but a light camera with a heavy lens can seem heavier than a combo which is better-balanced. Notably, the rumor site indicates the II version will be lighter!

Well, since I don't shot Canon it wouldn't do me much good although its interesting. I wish Tamron would come out with an OS version of my 28-75 2.8 that had just as good IQ, since I know if Nikon did I wouldn't be able to afford it and my family.

I'd be all over it in a heartbeat. The IS is the only reason I went for the 24-105 over the 24-70.

I wish the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 OS HSM was updated to have constant 2.8 id be all over it.

I just looked up the specs on the existing version, and saw it already does have gaskets and seals. To me, this is more important than IS, but to have both would be better.

All of the Canon L lenses are weather sealed.

Well, actually, I must respectfully disagree. Some sources have said this, but the entire L line-up is not sealed. My 35mm 1.4L is not weather-sealed, nor is the 135mm 2.0L that is at the top of my short list. One reason I have not yet grabbed a 135L is because I would really like to see a MarK II version with seals and gaskets. The current Canon rebate is making it more difficult to wait, especially as it might live on my 5D1, which is not itself weather-sealed, anyway.

L lenses introduced after a certain date have indeed all been weather-sealed. I do not remember when that change was made.
