Question n00b question abt what to rent for a wedding - 01-30-2012, 01:21 PM

I will be traveling to San Antonio to shoot my aunt's wedding. It is a small affair, 60 guests max, and a 2nd marriage for both my aunt & her fiancee - probably why they are going with an amateur like me LOL

For venues, the ceremony is taking place in the Ft Sam Houston Main Post Chapel, and the reception is in the Randolph AFB Kendrick Club. I'm hoping there's someone out there who's familiar with these venues? If not that's okay just trying to provide as much info as possible. Ceremony is at noon, reception from 2-6 pm.

I have a Canon Rebel xTi body with an EF-S 18-55mm but I want something nicer for the wedding, and a better flash. I've already found a rental place down there where I could pick up & return and the prices per day are reasonable. For lenses, they have the following:

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM
Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 USM
Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L USM
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM
Canon Extender EF 2X II

And for flashes they have these:
Canon 580EX Speedlight
Canon 430EX Speedlight

I would like recommendations, as I have no experience shooting with nicer lenses/flashes. I am just starting to take this more seriously than a hobby.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

24-70 will be the most versitile and you won't really have to worry about lens changing.

+1 ... hopefully you get at least the night before to practice. Just don't shoot the bare flash right into their face. Bounce it or modify it.

I plan to practice a bit before the ceremony. There is a rehearsal dinner the night before. And I will have a bounce card for the flash!
