Just a quick video illustration of what happens to your data after you snap the shutter, and why faster cards help.

I find it interesting that they are showing an SD card. (Not really) (I always preferred the SD card in my 1D's over the CF card. And still do)

Recalling the early days of this forum, when most cameras of all types used CF cards, I used to see gripes from many photogs about the more frequent use of the SD card.
Many complained that the SD cards were too small, size wise. They complained that they were too easily lost or too fragile...
Now the SD card is dominating the market. They are becoming the standard and the bigger, tougher, CF card is loosing ground, or has already lost it.

How times change.....

And lets not forget the cost of camera repair for those stupid bent connector pins.

I hope no one makes the stupid decision to go to MicroSD! I hate those little boogers. I had a 10" Android tablet that used a MicroSD card. Why?? It's big enough to fit a full size SD card slot on!

Anyway, the video oversimplifies it all, but it's basically correct.

I have started moving to micro/uSDHC simply because of a potential tablet purchase in the near future so I can review/cull on the tablet instead of the notebook. I've been using SDHC with a CF adapter for several years with no issues whatsoever. Today I picked up a 16g c10 uSDHC for <$20. Haven't bought a CF in several years.

I remember my excitement when CF got in the $1/MB range....now it is <$1/GB on uSDHC.....

A few years ago MicroCenter had a freebie of a pair of 4gb (molasses class c2?). They're good for a lot of things especially emergency use when you fill up everything else. Or lose one. Or whatever. Speed is good but often overrated for most applications.

"Compared to high-megapixel photography, video doesn't need as big a data pipe because the video format is a smaller "fixed stream" that uses only a portion of the data pipe. But you do need a minimum guaranteed speed for the SDHC card that satisfies the requirement of the data stream. Your camera's specifications should state the minimum SDHC Class Rating required." per Sandisk

My first digital camera, a Sony Mavica used a floppy. No pins were bent there.
