Rent both compare head to head. I always noticed that Nikon was quicker to focus and quieter.

Thanks for the info. I have tried Sigma before, but didn't good results. The Sigma 85 has had l lot of good comments on forums. About $300.00 difference between the Sigma and the Nikon 85 1.4D. Just trying to get some feedback to help me with my decision. Quicker to focus is important to me. Thanks again.

I have the Nikon 85/1.4D & it is outstanding. Have no experience with the Sigma.

The only complaint I hear, is the speed of focus. My understanding is that both are optically great. But I am a fan of getting the main manufacturer's over the 3rd party. ie:Canon or Nikon glass over the Tamrons/Sigmas/Tokinas

I have heard this several times since the post. I have tried the 85 1.4D and am looking to pick one up used.

That's a great lens. I have rented one a few times for some gigs. I am also wanting to buy the Nikon 85 1.4D as well.

Silent motor ... eh, it's still photography, whose recording audio? ;)

There were a few being sold for less than a $1000 in the For Sale section. See if those guys still have those available.
