Love the DPReview comment.

The pixels could easily be used by studio and landscape photographers. The less you have to upres the better. And the more detail to work with the better for the fashion guys.

But for most people, it is a waste of hard drive space.

On the other hand, options like "JPG+Small" will be usable to some...

Cool video ... but the Baby Delivery at the end was a bit much in my mind. I understand the adrenaline of bringing a child in the world from a medical stand point, having to hold a person's life in your hands ... but again a bit graphic for an ending.

I think they should have finished it with him like visiting a grand parent and handing them the keys or saying, still purrs like new.

But overall, some very nice video from the camera.

Forgive my naivete, but at first glance it seems that the D700 and the D800 serve different markets. Is the D800 really a D700 replacement or is the D800 filling a new spot in the lineup?

D800 is really servicing the D3x market.

I read all the specs but I can't seem to get excited about this camera. Either I'm that content with my D7000 or I just don't care.

Probably both, because like you said, the D800 is not marketed to D7000 users.
It's a logical upgrade for D700/D3 users. I'm even content with my D700 for the most part. Enough that I will not be rushing out to buy an 800 any time soon. But it's nice to know I've got the option in the future.

After printing some large prints of the D800 files I think it will be a very good camera for many applications.

For sure landscape and studio but with those large files you could do some heavy cropping for wildlife shots and still have a nice file. Maybe the fps won't be enough for the sports crowd but I could live with 6fps with the grip.

I need to see some high ISO files before I place my order because I still need a low light performer.
