Its $1886 for the Nikon version. I started pricing replacements for my Canon lenses when I printed up some shots from a D800.

Tamron just announced a 24-70 2.8 with VC (what they call OS) earlier this week. There is a thread here and it's also on nikon rumors. Considering that the lens this new Tamron replaces only cost $500 without OS I would expect VC lens to cost less than a grand.

There are a lot of people willing to pay $2,000 for this lens but not offering it with OS was a HUGE mistake.

Don't think it was a huge mistake when you look at how far IQ has come on these new bodies.

I'm not sure I follow? Are you saying that adding OS to the lens would lower the IQ?

It could. Just look at the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. The non-OS is clearly sharper than the OS model.

I really think what Tom was saying that the IQ on some of the newer lens coming out have been a demonstrative improvement over the previous versions, even though the prices have rose considerably. That said the new Canon 24-70 without IS is way overpriced. It is as much as the new 70-200 IS II.

That and the noise handling is so much better. You can afford to notch it up a spot or two.

MTFs suggest we have an awesome lense on our hands. The price is also effected heavily on exchange rate (strong yen, weak dollar), give it a few months it will be like $1999 then $1899 during seasonal rebate. Love the uproar on POTN.

$2300 is significantly higher than original version. IQ may be improved somewhat, but my 24-70 is so sharp I don't believe the new version will be worth twice the cost. Canon made a big mistake by not incorporating IS into this new lens. This will indeed be a good opportunity to see how Tamron and Sigma respond.
