From the mtf charts looks like a better lens. Except at over a grand more, I'll pass.

The cost and leaving out the IS is likely to have me pass on this lens. I was looking forward to the revised lens, but I think the Canon lens people missed on this one.

our 28-70L is a grand lens. we didnt run out to buy when they added 4mm of focal length, and we won't run out to buy for "better optics" either.

one day, maybe the majority will understand....

I don't really get the 24/2.8 IS and 28/2.8 IS being announced at the same time? Why both?

Not sure what Canon was thinking, I think their R&D people were high.

Reading the specs, well, I like the new 24-70mm II. This may be my first L zoom purchase. The price means that may be quite a while in the future, but I am doing well enough for now with what I have, and will probably purchase a 135L first. Patience is a virtue; no need to rush. (Multiple camera bodies reduce my need for zoom lenses, a rolling case makes toting the cameras easy enough, and I don't shoot events, so the rolling case is not an encumbrance.) I am now even more glad I did not stretch my budget during the recent rebate period to purchase the current 24-70mm.

I think they are more for the video guys. Put those on the C300, because it has no in-camera stabilization.

I would think if you're dropping the cash on a C300 you'd want one of those new Cine lens or something pretty high end. But maybe those new primes will be great, time will tell.

That is definitely true. But they might be a nice gateway from 60D to C300 lenses. My videographer has two Zeiss Cine lenses and they are pretty spectacular.

Other than the IS for video, I am not real sure why we would see a 24 2.8 IS or 28 2.8 IS. Is there really any market for that particular use?

Lenses and prices have gotten way out of hand, I think. And yes, I'm aware of the earthquake/tsunami/economy situation, but it started getting ridiculous before then.

Don't Nikon users pretty much pay close to that for their 24-70? Though, I think it is at least under $2k for theirs. Glad I got my 24-70L for $1249.
