I did actually. The D90 is what I wanted for a long time but then the D5100 came out messing me all up. :) I decided I wanted to purchase new for several reasons that are probably silly, but also for warranty. I also decided on the D5100 after reading several review comparisons. I looked at Canon too since that's what my old SLR was but a friend of mine has a Nikon D80 and several fancy lenses for it that she'll let me use/borrow.

Okay, I'll make sure I come here and click the link before I checkout. I'm in and out of there. I'm also buying a laptop. I have my own affiliate link but I don't even know how to use it. :)

Mel, that's cool that you will be able to get a Premium membership. I have spent enough to have a few years of free memberships but I think that was before Abel set up the affiliate link. But I know I will be using it for my next purchase! That reminds me. I have an L bracket I need to get on amazon. $20 closer to my Premium membership, woo hoo! haha

I will definitely come back to use the link before checkout.

On the 35mm lens is it a decent deal to spend $20 more on a bundle that includes: 52mm Multicoated UV Protective Filter, 52mm Hard Lens Hood, Lens Cap Keeper, and 5 pc. Lens Cleaning Kit

or not? Do I need any of that?

I would say no. Just get it from Amazon and you can add a good filter later.

I would suggest that you put a UV filter on all your lenses before you ever take them out. With digital cameras they are no longer necessary. However, they are cheap and provide a layer of protection in front of your expensive lens. No sense in scratching a quality lens right? That said, I recomend that you go with a quality filter for any filter you put on your lens. Hoya and Tiffen are the two brands I go with. UV filters are very cheap even from them.

Ouch. Doesn't seem too cheap after seeing all of the cheap brand cheap on Amazon. :)

There are several of each brand. Which one do I need?

just remember the cheaper the UV filter the more it will street your overall image quality from a decent piece of glass.

It looks like their are several different sizes. How do I know which one?

Bundles like this one don't say anything about what kind of brand is in there. Is this a decent deal?
