anyone available for some tech help? My mirror is not getting out of the way when I press my shutter. Any ideas?

Does the shutter fire?

On the old 35's you could reach in and lift on the mirror, it should be free.

Have you tried mirror lock up, if you have it?

On a 5D you can do sensor clean and it will lock up the mirror.

Does Nikon do something similar?

Other than that, try a fresh battery and or a system reset if you can.

I can move the mirror manually...

tried mirror lock for the sensor cleaning...

tried a fresh battery...

tried a system reset...

ugh, thanks for your suggestions though.

Hmmmm do I smell a reason to buy a D800 coming???? :)

Seriously hope you get the problem worked out Dan, it sounds like a trip to Precision (or facility of your choice) may be in order

that was my next question, where in Austin would anyone recommend for repairs? Is Precision my only option?

Well, you could switch to Canon,....... our mirrors just fall out.

No other ideas from me, sorry.

Precision is the only place I know. Had really bad sensor dust on my D3x one day while I was driving through Austin, stopped at Precision, they did a real nice job cleaning and didnt charge me a dime, I was impressed.

there's a certified Nikon repair center down here in San Antonio if you want to bring it down here. Havel camera.
