How to value gear

Hi all,
Don't want to post in the wrong forum, but not sure what to do. I have some Leica gear that I don't use and am considering selling. I don't know what to value the items at and would need some advice. I'm wanting to sell or trade for some more 4x5 gear, preferably a Wisner field camera.
I have a Leitz Canada 200mm Telyt f/4 lens, screw mount, a Visoflex ll bayonet mount and 2 different viewfinders, a bellows system bayonet mount, and a 125mm Hektor lens, made in Canada but needs to have it's blades re-installed. All have their original boxes and are mint, except for the Hektor.

Take a look on the various B&S forums and see what people are getting.

KEH is a well respected reseller.

They typically underrate their stuff as far as condition goes.

You probably need to be priced ~20% below their prices.

Most folks would rather buy from them than an individual.

Then list it here.....


You can also give them a call and see if they will trade.

Well I checked out KEH and they have a couple of Wisners, so I emailed them to ask about possible trades. Unless of course one of you wants to buy it all from me first.

I second KEH for checking prices. Feel free to post them here first. If you can sell them you'll probably get more than you will in trade.

it's only worth what someone who actually has the money is willing to pay you.

Craig,

Look the equipment you are trying to sell up at KEH.

Then price it ~20% below that.

I'd also suggest you view the current auctions on eBay for your various items....it will give you some idea of what they are worth.

Actually, I was going to suggest to consider the recently closed successful auctions on eBay. I find the pricing on the active auctions widely erratic and there are some things I have been looking at from the same sellers for over a year - - clearly priced too high.

I have been selling a bunch of stuff lately on various forums and have done a combination of KEH pricing, as Kevin suggests, and eBay closed (successful) pricing and I think most people have been satisfied with what they bought at the price they paid. Add in any recent Buy/Sell forum results for the same items and you have 3 good data points.

Thanks folks. I'm waiting for a reply from KEH as they have a Wisner 4x5 camera I"m interested in.

I think tomorrow I'll post it all in one pile for around 900 to 1000.00 bucks and see what happens, but I'm open to offers. I also have a Leica M5 camera but it needs a re-build, the electronics are shot in it. Not sure if I want to part with that one though.
