Lens skin - 02-21-2012, 04:57 PM

Has anyone bought a skin to cover their lenses before? Being a woman, I'm always trying to "beautify" my stuff so I thought these looked kinda cool.

I'm just wondering if over time with a lens in and out of a bag, heat, cold, etc. that the skin would become gooey and hard to remove.

They do look cool but unfortunately I don't how well they hold up.

I use a lenscoat on my 500 and 600. Two different designs but I don't think they have the selection of the lens skins. It would be interesting to see how well they are built in comparison.

Leopard skin cover for my 600 might be cool.

After looking at the video it looks like it is tape instead of foam. Doubt it will provide you the same protection but it is different. $50 could buy a bunch of gaffers tape or camo tape.

You're really into wild animals, aren't ya Jim?

Those foam ones must have been quite a bit more expensive than the lens skins, but I could see how the foam would be more protective. I'm thinking of the skin as more of a way to keep the lens from being scratched and of course to make it look pretty!

If you guys didn't have to buy those ugly white lenses Canon forces on you, you wouldn't need skins for them.

I have used the lens coat on two different lenses and after some time I just pulled them off because they slip and slide on the hoods, they bind up the rings to change focal lengths, and sometimes they would get in the way of focusing. They only part I left on the lens was the part that covers the focal length adjustment ring. I like them but just a hassle sometimes.

I have a lens coat on my 300. I'm afraid if these are removable, going in and out of a tight camera bag they'd roll up and off. I guess I also don't want my lens standing out any more. Some are black, some are white, I'm good with that. I suppose if you want color and pattern, absent anyone with practical experience, try one.

Another vote for lens coat. Have one on my 600 and love it for the added protection.

I could see the benefit of knowing which gear is yours, but mine is already rare enough being Sony.
