Memory Cards - Which do you use? - 02-02-2006, 09:47 AM

Anyone here use the PNY cards? They have a special on them at COMPUSA for $59.99. Anyone have any expierence with them? Website says they write 9x. I was also looking at a Scandisk Extreme II (i think thats the name of them) that does the same but 2x the price.

Lexar, sandisk, and kingston are probably the most popular brands. I just bought a TwinMos 140x CF card and liked it enough to buy a second. Try to get a company that offers a lifetime warranty.

9x is too slow, get something at least 40x.

I have a few different brands. When I am just noodling around I use cheapos. But when I am being paid and it matters I only use SanDisk Ultra II's. Call me nutty.

SanDisk. I'm really wary of the cheaper ones, especially when out on a paid shoot.

I have been using Kingston Elite Pro CF cards as my main cards for the past 4 months now with no issues. I have both the 4GB version and the 2GB versions. For the price they are difficult to beat and they are 45x and 50x respectively so speed isn't too bad. However, I also rarely fill the buffer on the camera when I am shooting but even on the 20D (the one with the smallest buffer of the 3 cameras we have), it has not been a problem.

For comparison, I also have some 1GB Sandisk Extreme III and Lexar 40x cards and none of them have given me any trouble.

As another vote of confidence, it seems that the company that I sometimes do some freelance work with have also started using the Kingston Elite Pro 2GB cards....and they can have several thousand dollars worth of pictures on each card.

I was happy enough with the Kingston performance and reliability that I just purchased a Kingston 2GB SD card (around $120 after the $40 rebate) and have also not experienced any issues with it.

Sandisk ultra II 's and lexars are the only ones I have used and never had a problem with either one.
